Abstract

The design of all spatial scales in a manufactured environment is part of the architectural skills and knowledge. Therefore, an architectural design should be drafted to reduce the vulnerability of humans and buildings against unexpected events, such as terrorist attacks and bombardments. Human casualties and equipment destruction inside the buildings could be prevented by designing a suitable architectural space. This study addresses the absence of a codified and detailed criterion to evaluate architectural spaces and their design. Hence, all proposed indices for architectural spaces have been extracted using the ideas of experts in the field of architecture and explosives.Questionnaires were presented to 25 experts to weigh the effective indices using the analytic hierarchy process method. The human-oriented (ergonomic) characteristics of the building space is found to be the most important factor in facilitating crisis management, followed by the location of critical spaces.

Abstract

Due to the fact that the resistance of a building against the explosion wave depends on the shape and form, the number of valves and openings, power and genus of the materials used in the building, study and assessment of types of forms from the viewpoint of civil defense become important. Form is one of the major issues to be considered in creation of architecture, in fact the heaviest task that an architect can be allowed is creation of the form. Due to the diversity of forms and shapes used around us which designers use them in their sketches, this shortage will appear that in order to observe considerations of civil defense, which forms and shapes are more resistant and have more stability against explosion effects? In this research in order to assess the basic geometric forms of buildings, first, types of basic forms of buildings had been identified by the use of library resources, then in order to assess the basic forms in addition to finite element modeling, polling experts had been done. In order to receive experts’ ideas a questionnaire for weighting to basic common forms in buildings, presented to 25 expert people who were familiar with civil engineering, architecture and civil defense. Then obtained results from questionnaires had been analyzed by the use of SPSS software. Next they obtained results from the finite element modeling, and Delphi method had been compared to each other. Finally the level of compatibility of basic building forms with the objectives of civil defense had been determined. With regard to results from finite element and polling of experts, from the viewpoint of civil defense conical form placed in the rank of very compatible forms and two hemisphere form and pyramidal form placed in the rank of compatible forms. From the viewpoint of civil defense, cubical form placed as incompatible form and cy-lindrical form placed in very incompatible form.
