Children play in the village of Fesharak

Children play beside the point at which the Qanat comes to the surface in the village of Fesharak. The life-giving force emerges from its strange dark tunnel and attracts young and old. Perhaps something in this goes to explain the fanatical love of water which Persians have, and the recreation of a childhood sense of mystery and innocence which it brings about. It is not hard to see a link between the numinance of this scene and the
worship of the water spirit Anahita.
